How we make money

PeptideBase has no revenue. No vendor pays us, no advertiser pays us, and nothing on this site is sponsored. It’s funded out of pocket while we build it.

We’re saying this plainly because “no vendor can pay us” is an easy sentence to write and a hard one to trust. The honest version is that there is currently nothing for a vendor to buy.

What we’ve ruled out

When we do need revenue, it will not come from the vendors we list. Not sponsorship, not paid placement, not affiliate commission on what you buy, not a fee to be listed, not a fee to be listed higher, not a badge.

That rules out most of the obvious business models for a site like this. That’s deliberate. A vendor directory funded by the vendors it documents has an interest in what it documents, and no amount of disclosure fixes that.

What we’re likely to do instead

Money from readers, not from vendors — paid tools, a subscription for people who use this professionally, or direct support from people who find it useful. We haven’t decided, and we won’t pretend otherwise.

If that ever changes

If we take money in any way that touches what appears on this site, we’ll say so on this page before it ships, not after. Every change to this page is listed below.
